Nutritional Benefits of 100% Grass-fed Beef

By: Allison Martineau

As many of you know, Walden’s 100% grass-fed beef tastes much better than industrial corn-fed beef and it’s locally raised right here in New England. But did you know that your grass-fed beef is nutritionally completely different from conventionally raised beef? It is actually a healthy and important food, and scientists are just starting to understand why.  Here are a few reasons:

  1. Grass-fed beef is naturally lower in fat. Allowing cows to graze on grass their entire lives keeps them far learner and healthier.
  2. Grass-fed beef contains fats that are good for you. The fat that grass fed beef does contain is high in levels of healthy Omega-3s, which lower inflammation in your body and contribute to a healthy heart.
  3. Grass-fed beef has lower levels of Omega-6 fats than conventionally raised beef.  Omega-6 fats are pro-inflammatory: they have the opposite effect of omega-3s in the body.
  4. Grass-fed beef is higher in CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid). Early research has linked higher CLA levels with easier weight loss and a reduced risk of heart disease and certain types of cancer.
  5. Cattle that eat grass have significantly lower chances of being infected with bacteria and are less likely to need antibiotics.

From a nutrition perspective there is simply no comparison: grass-fed beef is a heart healthy food with many benefits to your health. Put simply, because the cows are healthier, the meat is too - and as a result, so are you!
